CPH V

Here is my 5th Central Park Hoodie, all finished, and blocking. I made three main modifications to this one. FIrst, I knit the body all in one piece until dividing for the armholes, second, I picked up the stitches around the armholes and then did shortrows to make the sleevecap before continuing to knit them in the round, and third, I did a 3 stitch icord bind-off around the ribbing and to make the button holes. It came out really excellent and I would definitely do that again.

Even though it took me a little longer to knit than I meant for it to, that was mostly due to my own distraction, and this sweater really is a quick knit.

I think its new owner will love it when I deliver it on Monday!

Kale Salad...

My report on this recipe is that the salad is pretty tastey. It makes quite a bit - probably six large meal sized portions in my house.  I would definitely make it again, although I am not a huge sesame fan, so I may explore alternate dressings or just water down some hummos with lemon juice as the dressing.

In other news, I got the bug to make some grapefruit juice this morning, and it was like a little slice of Florida injected into my morning, with a second serving saved for tomorrow too:

Its Monday.

And I'm home.

After a couple of weeks of traveling, and it feels really nice to be in my own house.
One thing I miss when traveling (besides my own bed, and the Murph), is cooking for myself.

This week I will be trying out the following recipes:

Weekend Glow Kale Salad

Lightened-up Pulled Pork in the Slow Cooker from Prevention Magazine

Linzer Cookies (aka future valentines day gifts)

and also some Jalapeno Slaw to go with the pork. The recipe is: 1 package of coleslaw mix, one jalapeno - chopped really fine, a splash of cider vinegar, a small squeeze of honey. Mix it all together and let sit covered in the fridge for a couple of hours.

I will report back as the cooking progresses.

Finishing and Starting...

FINISHING: I finished two pairs of socks this past week, in between playing with these guys:

These are for my mom, because she really liked them when I started knitting them:

These are for my friend Chris's bday. In early December (2011).

First pattern Charade, second pattern of my own design with a cable down the outside of each sock. First yarn Socks that Rock in colorway firebird, second yarn something opal or trekking xxl-y.  I lost the ball band, but it is definitely superwash.

STARTING: I started a new bit of spinning a couple of days ago. 

I finished two out of four ounces. 

This half is mostly blues purples and greens. The second half of this fiber is all shades of yellow and gold, so it should be really cool one its turned into a two-ply. It is 4 oz of Hello Yarn's BFL in colorway Scorch from the Feb 2011 Fiber Club. (Sorry i forgot to take a pic of the pre-spun fiber.)
