Due to technical difficulties, Sockpal Sock #1 has been CANCELED. Reason 1 is that the cotton sock yarn had NO memory. (Yes, everyone else who ever tried cotton sock yarn is saying "DUH" like a 4-th grader right now, but for some reason, I thought I would be different. Plus, the stitch definition was excellent, and it was showing the pattern SO nicely.) Reason 2 is that after knitting only 4.5 inches of my intended 6 inch leg, there is NO way I would have had enough yarn to complete the entire foot.
So I went to my LYS to replace the sockpal yarn with something different. Something better that my sockpal would love even more. My pal specified that they would prefer texture in the sock to pattern in the yarn, so I was really trying for a solid color. My LYS only had solid colors I didnt care for. So I got some lightly but evenly speckled yarn, and took it home to cast on for Sock #2. I cast on and did my 12 ribbing rows, I purl row, and then started the same pattern. I did about 6 pattern rows and concluded that my wonderful sock pattern (that I WILL knit again another day - just not in cotton) did not look good with the evenly speckled yarn. Actually, it didnt look like anything, it didnt show up. That was sock 2.1. I ripped back to the purl row, and then started over with a really nice 6 stitch cable pattern. Too bad I got a ways into the cable before I remembered that cable require WAY more stitches per inch than a little ribbing. At this point, I was knitting at the beach and noticed that the yarn looked a bit like sand. I ripped the entire thing out, and searched through my knitting bag for inspiration...and found my Odessa Hat pattern. THANKS GRUMPERINA!
I give you my lovely picot-edged sock 2.3 the "SAND SOCKS." Started Saturday afternoon, on sunday evening I am already on the heel-flap of sock 2.3.1! They are lovely and I am loving them. Pictured below is sock 2.2 before it was ripped, so you can see how the yarn looks on the beach. Then - SOCK 2.3.1...in all its glory - the Sand Socks! The inside shot, taken on sunday evening, does NOT do them justice...Plus a gratuitous puppy on the beach shot! (Click on any to make larger.)
